At Cafe Britt we believe that good coffee should not only be delicious, it should also be easy. We know that our customers are busy and don’t always have time to spend on elaborate brewing methods. That’s why we pioneered the movement to popularize espresso drinks in Costa Rica and simplify your coffee drinking process.
The espresso machine rose to popularity in Italy in the early 1900s and utilized the delicate process of extraction. Until this point most coffee was made using infusion methods—allowing coffee grounds and water to combine slowly through the brewing process. Extraction, on the other hand, is a far more scientific method that withdraws the best flavors from coffee beans in an extremely short amount of time.
The machine uses steam pressure to speed up the brewing process and deliver the freshest cup of coffee possible. Originally, beans used in espresso were not more than two weeks old and were ground and brewed immediately prior to drinking.
The espresso method reduced the time needed to prepare coffee significantly and also produced an entirely new flavor palate. Because of the immense pressure exerted on the beans to produce espresso so quickly, they maintain a powerfully distinct flavor.
In order to create this strong flavor, the temperature inside the espresso machine must be monitored with utmost care. The beans must be roasted just enough to caramelize their natural sugars without burning the beans and losing its distinct flavors. The ideal cup of espresso is a deep brown color with incredibly rich flavor and a thick layer of “crema” (similar to foam) that will leave a lasting impression on your taste buds.
Our Costa Rican Espresso blend is our darkest roast and features tantalizing hints of dark chocolate and caramel. We also offer individual serving size espresso capsules, the perfect choice for on-the-go coffee drinkers who need a quality drink in a short amount of time.
Until recently, espresso was not a common drink in Costa Rica, and we took it upon ourselves to introduce this delightful drink to our country. Now it is a popular choice for locals and many coffee shops in the city to use our espresso blend to create their cafe drinks.
